There have been occasions this season when Nicolas Jackson has played like a top-tier player, and he has had solid performances overall.
Hard work, running in behind to expose defenses, pressure, speed to go away down the flank, and occasionally fantastic link up play with players like Cole Palmer are all hallmarks of his game.
However, he needs to work on his finishing skills; if he had maintained his composure more frequently, he could have doubled his Premier League goal total from the previous season.
His complete lack of timing on his runs is another factor that is causing him to lose goals. Even though it feels like five times a game, his offside average is one. No Premier League player has more than that.
Players on 0.7 are reached when you fall to third place in the rankings. So, compared to the third-most offside player in the league, Jackson’s offside percentage is 30% higher.
Keep in mind that being caught offside is just one aspect of the issue of mistimed runs. When he leaves too early, these things happen. When he starts his run too late, defenders and goalkeepers easily pick up good through balls from Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, and for every one of them, there are many that go the opposite way.
Jackson, who is only 22 years old, has a lot of time to fix this. Until this issue is resolved, he will not be considered as a long-term option for anyone’s striker position; nonetheless, we do not approve of having any Chelsea player ranked last in any league statistic.
