New footage from the stands at the London Stadium has given us a fresh view into the altercation between Mo Salah and Jurgen Klopp.
A furious argument between Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and star scorer Mohamed Salah toward the conclusion of their 2-2 draw with West Ham effectively ended their chances of winning the Premier League. In the last moments of Saturday’s early game, there was a heated argument between Klopp and Salah that caught the attention of the TNT Sports cameras.
Salah was left out of the starting lineup and benched, ready to substitute himself. This raised some concerns among supporters on social media. In his post-match interview, Klopp dismissed the controversy around the touchline, claiming that he and Salah had resolved their differences in the locker room and that, in his opinion, it was now history. As Salah walked into the mixed zone, however, he fannied the fires by cryptically warning reporters, “If I speak today there will be fire.” according to the Express. A video that has been circulating on social media may provide fresh insight into the altercation, implying that a cold handshake may have set off the chain of events.
Salah was a little slow to accept Klopp’s handshake as the Egyptian was called up from the bench to get ready for his introduction. Then Salah dismissed Klopp’s apparent question about why they hadn’t exchanged their customary cordial pre-substitution welcome. After a violent argument between the two, Klopp turned to shake hands and give hugs to fellow replacements Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez before heading back to the game. The rest of the argument was seen on TV cameras, during which time Nunez had to physically detain Salah when Klopp made a comment that clearly infuriated him about 40 seconds after their first cold-shoulder greeting.
Next, Salah moved away from Klopp by walking a few yards down the touchline, with Nunez and Gomez positioned between them. Salah stormed down the tunnel at the final whistle, but he was unable to ignite the comeback Liverpool needed, even after being brought on.
