Nunez stormed off the field after full time of Sunday afternoon’s 4-2 triumph against Tottenham at Anfield, continuing his recent streak of outbursts about his time at the Reds.
Following a crucial victory for his club, he made the perplexing decision to remove any and all posts mentioning Liverpool from his Instagram account.
Although his dissatisfaction with the club’s direction is still up in the air, he has been linked with a departure from the club barely two years into a tenure that has been beset by unrealized potential since his £85 million transfer from Benfica.
On Tuesday, he sent a photo to Instagram with Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, further fueling the rumours that he was still without Liverpool.As he posed in his cap and sunglasses, Nunez, who plays for the Uruguayan national team with Araujo, couldn’t help but smile.
In Spanish, he wrote a caption that is similar to “I love you brother”: “TQM hermano.” This was his photo caption.
As Robert Lewandowski’s impending summer departure from Anfield grows closer by the day, Nunez has allegedly been identified as a possible replacement for Lewandowski by the Spanish club Barcelona.
Even though Lewandowski’s current contract is only good for another two years, Barça will likely want to get rid of him this summer in order to meet the £175 million pay ceiling that LaLiga imposed earlier this season.
