Recent coaching firings in the NBA have been criticized by Dejounte Murray

When things don’t go according to plan in the NBA, the head coach is typically the one to shoulder the responsibility. It typically works out that way regardless of whether it’s correct or bad. Just one week after the Lakers let Darvin Ham go, the Phoenix Suns followed suit on Thursday by dismissing head coach Frank Vogel. However, Dejounte Murray, a guard with the Atlanta Hawks, went on social media to express his support for the coaches, so it seems that not everyone is on board with this strategy.

“It’s Crаzy Hоw Cоаches Get Blаmed Befоre The Plаyers!!!!!!” Dejоunte Murrаy wrоte оn his X аccоunt. оnly Dаrvin Hаm аnd Frаnk Vоgel hаve been let gо аs heаd cоаches аfter disаppоinting plаyоff runs. Bоth Vоgel аnd Hаm were in the middle оf their cоntrаcts; Vоgel wаs plаying in his rооkie yeаr with the Suns.

In 2022–23, Dejounte Murray’s rookie season with the Hawks, the squad was also involved in a similar predicament. After what was deemed as a disappointing start to the season, the organization fired Nate McMillan. At the time of the decision, the Hawks’ record after the All-Star break was 29-30.

The previous season, the Hawks made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, but they couldn’t maintain their success. Quin Snyder, the current head coach of the Hawks, eventually succeeded McMillan.

As a result of careless roster management, Frank Vogel is the newest casualty. When things don’t go according to plan, the head coach usually gets the blame. However, no matter how hard they try, they can only use the roster they’re given. Even with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal as their Big3, the Suns’ lineup was lackluster.

The Suns were thought to be on the cusp of a championship run when they traded for Bradley Beal in the offseason. However, they had a shaky start to the season and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, although eventually recovering.

However, the Suns’ lack of depth was a major complaint. Indeed, they lacked sufficient regularity and output outside their superstars.

Investigating Vogel’s Lakers counterpart, Darvin Ham, reveals a similarly poor squad that was far from being a title contender. Although Dejounte Murray made the case that the players should take responsibility for their failure to deliver, there should be accountability from all levels of the organization, including the front office.

Mike Budenholzer, formerly of the Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks, is supposedly the man the Suns are targeting as a replacement for Vogel in Phoenix. Neither Tyronn Lue, head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, nor Jason Kidd, head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, are likely candidates for the Lakers’ open coaching positions because of their existing contracts.

In any case, when it comes to dismissals of head coaches, Murray makes a good point that needs more consideration.
