After a medical last year that left many wondering if he will play basketball in the future, Bronny James recently received some positive news.

James, the 19-year-old NBA player LeBron James’ eldest kid, suffered a congenital heart abnormality after going into cardiac arrest in July 2023. Just in time for the NBA draft combine, James has now received clearance from the NBA’s Fitness to Play Panel, less than a year later, according to USA Today.

On April 5, James formally declared that he would declare for the NBA draft after completing his first year at USC. At 19.4 minutes per game, 2.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.8 points were James’s averages during his weak first collegiate season.The adolescent has until May 29 to decide whether to forego the draft in favor of returning to college.

The 5-on-5 scrimmages will kιck off the NBA combine on Tuesday.

Last month, James said on Instagram that he was prepared to transition to the professional ranks.

James wrote, “This year has had its ups and downs, but it has also added growth for me as a man, student, and athlete.” “I’ve decided to use my college eligibility to enter the NBA Draft, and I’ll also be using the NCAA transfer portal.”

On July 24, while practicing basketball at the University of Southern California, Bronny suffered a heart arrest and was admitted to the hospital. The Los Angeles Times said that the budding basketball player, whose condition was deemed a Code 3, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance from USC’s Galen Center.The James family spokesman told PEOPLE that the next day, Bronny was in a stable condition and “no longer” in the intensive care unit. Two days later, he was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he had received treatment.

On December 10, he was allowed to report for his first season at USC.

LeBron has expressed his desire to play his final season alongside his son, something Bronny is considering.

LeBron said in 2022, “My last year will be played with my son,” to the Athletic. “I will be wherever Bronny happens to be. If I could play with my son for a year, I would do anything. At that point, it isn’t about the money.
