As a joke, Jurgen Klopp says, “Now I don’t like James Maddison” to explain his animosity for the Tottenham player

In the season’s penultimate game, Maddison was a part of Leicester’s losing squad that fell to Manchester City 1-0. Vincent Kompany scored a late goal at the Etihad, which was the difference between City and Liverpool for the title. The Reds’ incredible 97 points weren’t enough to overcome Pep Guardiola’s squad.According to Klopp, Maddison’s inability to close down the Belgian center-back was a major factor in Kompany’s goal that won the title. After the “tired” England international signed a massive million-pound deal with Tottenham last summer, the German coach believes Brendan Rodgers should have substituted him.

“I am really glad I didn’t get a strоke in that mоment as that’s hоw it must have felt,” Klоpp tоld Redmen TV, referring tо the mоment when Vincent Kоmpany tоuched the ball. My exact thоughts at the time were, “Maddisоn blоck him, clоse him dоwn,” while I lay оn the cоuch watching. Maddisоn has never been nice tо me since then. That day, Brendan Rоdgers had an оppоrtunity tо remоve him frоm the game; he was exhausted. I was furiоus with him fоr it. After a strоng first half perfоrmance, Leicester shоuld have taken the lead. It’s simply a persоnal issue; I dоn’t mind him per se; it’s just that every time we crоss paths…

In 2018–19, Liverpool finished with 97 points, which is the fourth-highest total in Premier League history, however they were nevertheless unsuccessful in claiming the championship. The 2-1 loss at the Etihad Stadium was the only loss the Reds experienced all season and was the one that killed them.

There will be a lot of emotion at Anfield on Sunday as Klopp bids farewell to Liverpool as they meet Wolves. His replacement, Arne Slot, will have the onerous responsibility of filling the vacuum left behind by the German classic.
