After selecting 22-year-old Anthony Edwards with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves had big hopes for him. Edwards has more than delivered, drawing plenty of admirers. Even more so than the legendary Michael Jordan, who praised Edwards and said the two players have comparable approaches.
With an average of 25.9 points (46.1% field goal percentage), 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, Edwards continued to progress this season, leading the Timberwolves to top of the Western Conference. He was picked as an All-Star once again.Although his team’s 57–25 record is the best in franchise history and the second-best in the NBA this season (after the Celtics’ 64–18 record), his greatest accomplishment may have been attracting the attention of Michael Jordan, generally considered the best basketball player of all time.
According to Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard, who broke the news earlier this year, Jordan told ESPN that “Anthony is a special player” and that he recognized similarities between Edwards and himself.“Yes, there are similarities with me in the way he plays,” Jordan said Broussard. Jordan won four NBA championships.
Great compliment, but well-deserved. Not only is Edwards one of the league’s top young players, but he’s also a strong contender for most valuable player and could end up being an NBA powerhouse for years to come.
Much obliged for your time.
His unrestrained ambition, along with his fortunate and explosive physique that lets him soar at 1.98 m, and his style of play on the court are what really set him apart from the competition and have earned him comparisons to Michael Jordan.
