OFFICIAL: Aston Villa is spending big to recruit Barcelona’s No.1 defender

A number of Barcelona players, including Ronald Araujo, are facing an unclear future ahead of them as the club prepares itself for the possibility of completely overhauling its roster.

Considering that Barcelona is now experiencing yet another round of economic difficulties, the club might be compelled to sell off some of their most talented players throughout the summer in order to generate some much-needed income.

To that end, the sale of Araujo appears to be rather advantageous, as the defender has the potential to command a rich valuation in the market.

Aston Villa interested in Araujo

Aston Villa is one of the clubs that has expressed interest in Araujo’s services, indicating that the unclear scenario that he is now in at Barcelona has not gone ignored.

According to Diario SPORT, Unai Emery, the coach of Aston Villa, and Monchi, the sporting director, are exploring the possibility of acquiring a new defender during the summer transfer window, and Araujo is an ideal candidate for the position.

The fact that both Monchi and Emery were present for Barcelona’s match versus Valencia is something that should be documented. Even more, the two individuals had a conversation with the management of Barcelona, and it seems that the matter of Araujo was brought up during that conversation.

Aston Villa proposed their interest in Araujo’s situation and vowed to come up with an offer if the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

With the Premier League season coming to an end yesterday, Aston Villa have indeed qualified for UCL next season by finishing fourth in the league.

Deal depends on certain factors

According to the article, however, the deal that Aston Villa would make for Araujo would be contingent on a number of other conditions.

Even though the team has earned a spot in the UCL, they still need to reduce the size of their present roster. Putting Diego Carlos up for sale has already been approved by Emery, who has given his approval.

Even in the event that Aston Villa is successful in securing Carlos’ departure, it is not anticipated that the Villans will be able to fulfill Barcelona’s astronomical demand of €80 million for Ronald Araujo.

In the meantime, Araujo is not the only defender that Barcelona is potentially interested in selling over this summer. The versatile Andreas Christensen, who may possibly fetch a decent price, is another player whom the club might take into consideration for a transfer.
