Ex-Man City player talks about Arne Slot’s influence: “He is like Pep Guardiola

One man who has worked with the new head coach of Liverpool, Arne Slot, has compared him to a prominent Premier League manager.

In the 1990s, Michel Vonk played for Manchester City for three years. He was also a youth coach at AZ Alkmaar when the 45-year-old was manager of the club. Now, Vonk has compared Jurgen Klopp’s replacement to the head coach at his alma mater.

“He spent hours watching videos of the big teams, Barcelona and, of course, Manchester City,” the ex-Maine Road defender claimed of Slot while speaking to Sky Sports. Arne is a fantastic football coach with an attacking style of play.

“He reminds me of Pep Guardiola. He is a team player who believes in and embodies these concepts.Although Liverpool fans may take exception to the comparison to Guardiola because to our history of rivalry with City, we will not object if Slot can achieve the same feat as the Spaniard and win six Premier League titles in eight seasons!

Vonk gives the impression that the new Reds head coach is a winner who never stops trying to win, and he also advocates a style of play that the Merseyside fans are sure to love. Also, the 45-year-old appears to have strong tactical concepts in which he believes wholeheartedly; this level of focus is admirable, provided it doesn’t become so entrenched that it prevents the squad from winning some games.

But the word from someone who has worked with Slot at AZ is really good, so here’s hoping the Liverpool board’s trust is well-placed.
