Before the trade deadline of the previous season, the Sun acquired Durant in a sensational deal that sent Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and several first-round selections to the Nets.
The Suns ended with a 49-33 record this season, good for the sixth seed. However, they were the first team out of the playoffs as Minnesota swept them in the opening round. The Timberwolves then defeated the Denver Nuggets, the reigning NBA champions, to make their first-ever trip to the Western Conference finals since 2004.
Booker averaged 27.1 points on 49.2% shooting, 6.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds; nevertheless, despite this, he was not selected to the NBA All Star team.
This season, Booker played 68 games and shot 36.4% from three. In the 2020–21 season, he was named to the All-NBA first team. The Suns advanced to the finals but were defeated by the Bucks in six games.
In terms of scoring this season, Durant and Booker were fifth and sixth in the NBA. Both of them were selected to compete for Team USA in the Paris Olympics of 2024.
