The 42-year-old ex-professional basketball player brought his wife Gabrielle Union, 51, and their 5-year-old daughter Kaavia to a WNBA game on May 25 at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena.

In recognition of Wade’s efforts to advance transgender rights, the Elevate Prize Catalyst Award was bestowed upon him last week. Wade accepted the honor and referred to it as a “Wade family award.”

“She didn’t ask for this extra excitement in life,” the basketball star said, praising Zaya for her activism. She yearned to revert to her childhood, playfully engage in innocent pursuits, and care just about herself. Worrying for you is the normal behavior for someone her age. However, as a father, I am incredibly proud of her because she is considering the greater good of the community.
