As reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Bronny James has decided to forfeit the remaining portion of his college eligibility in order to proceed with his participation in the NBA Draft.
In a tweet, Givony shared the following information: “NEWS: Bronny James will keep his name in the 2024 NBA draft at the NCAA withdrawal deadline,” and his agent Rich Paul confirmed this information to ESPN. It has been reported that James is currently in the midst of a successful pre-draft process, which has raised his standing among NBA teams.
Following the completion of his lone season at the University of Southern California, James made the decision to test the waters of the NBA Draft. After reviewing Givony’s report, it was determined that all parties were content enough to proceed with the process.
An official statement was provided to ESPN by Rich Paul, who is the agent of LeBron James and represents his father.
“Bronny’s [draft] range is wide,” Paul said in an interview with ESPN.He has a lot of space for improvement and is a really good prospect,” the coach said. One team is all that is required. It does not matter to me where that team is ranked; it may be number one or number 58. However, I am concerned about the plan and the progress. The plan of the team, the opportunity, and the financial commitment that will be made. Because of this, I am not going to engage in a two-way deal. Is something that every team is aware of?
During the combine and workouts, Givony stated that Bronny James’ testing struck out as particularly noteworthy.
“James, who is 19 years old, placed second among 71 participants in two 3-point shooting drills at the NBA draft combine in Chicago earlier this month,” he said. “James tested as one of the fastest and most explosive athletes at the combine.” James also scored 13 points in a team scrimmage that was part of the combine. The previous week, he took part in a pro day that was held at the Lakers’ practice facility, which was attended by a large number of people. During this event, he once again displayed his highlight-reel explosiveness and improved ability to shoot from the perimeter.
In the NBA, James was supposed to work out for ten different clubs, but according to reports, he turned down eight of them. As a result, he only worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.
Following a heart arrest that occurred during the summer of 2017, James was originally restricted in the number of minutes he played until he increased his playing time during his freshman season with USC. However, his performance did not necessarily represent that of a likely choice in the forthcoming NBA Draft. He averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while playing 19.4 minutes per game.
With six starts throughout the season and three games in which he scored in double figures, he saw the most of his playing time for the Trojans coming off the bench.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he was a highly touted high school recruit out of Sierra Canyon in California. He was rated as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 25 overall recruit. Additionally, he was ranked as the No. 6 point guard in the 2023 cycle.
