During the night, the two odd companions snuggle up.

It is quite unlikely that Modjadji, the young zebra, and Daisy, the young rhino, would have ever crossed paths in the wild, much less became friends. The two abandoned rhinos at the Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary, however, have formed an unlikely bond and are now supporting one another’s recovery.

The Dodo was informed by Louwhen Bowker, a media liaison for Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary, that Modjadji was admitted to the sanctuary’s intensive care unit at the end of November following the discovery of the animal lifeless and severely compromised on the reserve following intense rainfall and storms. “It was believed that Modjadji was only one week old.”

They became fast friends, and the two little orphans helped each other out when they were sick.

“Their curiosity got the best of them, and they started interacting with each other,” Bowker said, adding that the animals’ strength and courage allowed them to become more social. Because of their sociability, rhinos need other animals to play with. Modjadji is incredibly caring and wonderful to be around for Daisy.

The two abandoned animals bond more closely after a month of sharing a home. One of them will be close behind wherever you locate it.

“They snuggle up at night, which makes Daisy feel safe and secure,” Bowker said. Daisy doesn’t have to deal with too many people because her friend Modjadji is there for her all the time.

The two young orphans will, one day, perhaps, have the chance to roam freely and encounter other zebras and rhinos. At least they have each other, which proves that nothing matters more than a bond between brothers (sorry, sisters).
