While Victor Wembanyama will play in all seven games, the San Antonio Spurs announced Monday that two important members of its youthful core, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan, will not be participating for the rest of the season.

In a roster that is expected to undergo significant changes in the next years in order to construct around Wembanyama, Vassell’s retention is quite likely. He was a perfect complement to Wembanyama, averaging 19.5 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. The Spurs have Vassell under contract for the upcoming season thanks to a five-year, $135 million rookie extension deal that he inked last summer.
As to the team report, Sochan will be treated for a left ankle impingement with arthroscopic surgery. After Gregg Popovich and the Spurs tried using Sochan as a point forward early in the season, it didn’t pan out, and Sochan’s season was all over the place. He was able to carve out a niche for himself on the squad after switching back to his old forward position. Sochan had a season-high 11.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, and 3.4 apg.
The Spurs are currently 18-57, meaning they will not be advancing from the West playoffs and will likely have one of the top five draft picks (subject to NBA Draft Lottery results).
