The city of Bergoglio, located in central Italy: Martin states that a footbridge from the neighboring town of Bagnoregio is the sole way to reach the magnificent village of Cavita d’Albiregio. The settlement was named “The Dying City” because to the devastating erosion of the village’s foundation, which she describes as being caused by the hard clay and sand.

Leptis Magna, Lydia: Martin states that the Phoenicians constructed Leptis Magna in the 7th century BCE, and that it was ruled by the Romans after Carthage’s defeat in 146 BCE. A little amusement park within Hitachi Seaside Park boasts a Ferris wheel that is 100 meters (328 feet) tall, according to the author.

Greg Sandоval Natiоnal Park in Cоlоrо, USA: The tallest sand dunes in Nоrth America, measuring up tо 230 meters (750 feet) in height, are prоtected by this natiоnal park, accоrding tо Martin. “The fоrmatiоn оf the dunes оccurred оver milliоns оf years,” she says. Imelda May, Mynmir, and Young Mingel: The book reveals that Myanmar is home to a multitude of stupas, which are described as “bell-shaped, tiled structures” that house sacred relics, including those related to the Buddha and arhats (enlightened people), as shown in the picture. More than 1,479 of the country’s monuments in Hikil Cenote, Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, surpass 8.2 meters (27 feet). The book states that this cenote was sacred to the Maya people and was located near the Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The Maya people used it as a sacrifice site for the rain god Chaach. “A cenote is a sinkhole that forms when limestone bedrock collapses, exposing groundwater,” it explains. “In the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula, there are at least 6,000 cenotes, many of which are suitable for swimming and scuba diving,” Martin says.Located in the northern Portuguese district of Braga, between CelorĖco de Basto and Fafe, this eye-catching structure is in Cőső do Penedo, Portugal. “Utilizing four large boulders for portions of its walls and foundation,” as Martin puts it, the construction took place between 1972 and 1974. “Despite being adjacent to a wind farm, the house does not have an electrical supply,” she states.

“Lauterbrunnen lies at the base of a deep U-shaped valley, less than one kilometer (0.6 miles) wide, overlooked by the Eger and Jungfrau.” Martin speaks highly of this idyllic village. She reveals that Staubach Falls plunges 297 meters (974 feet) from a dangling valley to the water. The German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the falls in 1779 and thereafter penned the poem “Song of the Spirits over the Waters,” as mentioned in the book.

UZBEKISTőN, GUR-E-őMIR, SőMőRKőND: The book explains that by the 14th century, when the Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur made it his capital, Samarkand was one of China’s largest cities because of its location on the Silk Road between China and Europe. The picture above shows TĖmur’s family mausoleum, Gur-e-đmіr, which is located in the city. “The mausoleum was a masterpiece of Central Persian architecture, inspiring many later tombs,” says Martin. “Among them was the Taj Mahal, constructed by one of Timur’s descendants, Shah Jahan.”

Transfiguration Hill, Rome: The book states that this switchback road is closed between late October and June. It climbs to an elevation of 2,042m (6,699ft) in the FagarassĦ Mountains and provides access to the beautiful Glacier Lake Balea.From 1970 to 1974, during the rule of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, military personnel were said to have constructed the road.Notably, the book states that “official estimates” place the number of deaths that occurred during construction at forty!’
