The Boston crowd went wild as Kyrie Irving dribbled the ball off his foot. On yet another turnover, he stumbled, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

As if that weren’t bad enough, the crowd still hasn’t forgiven Irving for leaving the Celtics after the 2019 postseason by choosing not to renew his contract. Unfortunately for the Mavericks point guard, his grand slam in Game 1 of the NBA Finals wasn’t enough to appease the Boston faithful.

On Thursday night, Irving led Boston to a 107-89 victory over Dallas. He shot 6-for-19 from the field, missed all five of his 3-point tries, and committed three turnovers. Irving finished with 12 points. Only once in the previous 55 years has a club finished with fewer assists than Dallas, who had only nine overall (with Irving grabbing two).

The Celtics extended Irving’s losing streak to 11 games.

Losing in Boston is nothing new for me. “I would prefer not to let it become habitual,” Irving stated. “They have had my number a little bit.”

Irving, who won eight All-Star nods and helped Cleveland win the 2016 NBA championship with LeBron James, is now famous for his ludicrous views more than his playing career.

Despite Irving’s professed affection for the city, the Celtics lost in the second round the next year, and he opted out of his contracts. Boston pushed its lead back to 22 points, 86-64, thanks to a 3-pointer that missed and two jumpers beneath the rim by Irving.

After that, the Mavericks were completely out of it.
