Mesa, Arizona: 1977 Chevrolet Corvette Up for Grabs

Automobile Details 1977 CORVETTE L-82 CC-1744856 LISTING ID

THE FIRST OWNER

The automobile up for grabs is a (Matching Numbers) L-82 Corvette from the late manufacturing run (#43,450 of 49,213). It was delivered to a Detroit GM dealer, who promptly sent it to the body shop, where it was extensively blocked, sanded, and painted six coats of black lacquer. Upon completion, it was presented to his nephew, who had just received his medical degree. The doctor had taken possession during that time, driven to Minneapolis, and then sold it to me in early November 1977 after accepting a position in France. Since then, it has been cared for with extreme meticulousness by an extremely picky mechanical engineer. Technically, the automobile has been my for 46 years (minus the short weeks it was in transit), but in practice, I am the original owner.

The vehicle was put in a heated garage in Minneapolis from October to May annually until 1986, when it was moved to California and subsequently to Arizona, where it has remained ever since.

Beautiful though it is, the 1977 Corvette was let down by a number of major issues. Sport cars like the 1977 Corvette can handle 350+ horsepower while weighing in at 3,500 pounds. “Emission controls” cut over 150 horsepower from the L-82 engine by 1977. Personally, I don’t think this model’s 210 HP is nearly enough power, and it still didn’t pass either the California or Canadian pollution tests, even after I fitted the California pollution Certification option.

With its current configuration, this Corvette boasts around 350 horsepower, a 14-year California license, and no trouble passing California’s emission standards. For the customer who favors a “Survivor” model, the majority of the original factory components remain in pristine condition, such as the AM/FM stereo, clock, radiator tanks, 2.02 heads, intake manifold, and other replacement parts. Repairing took place in 1997.

Mike Scott, who owns Corvette Corrections in Anaheim, California, and is a Corvette judge, gave the vehicle an appraisal of “not less than $20,000” ($32,200) in 2004. Along with that, he mentioned that this 1977 Corvette was one of the best he had seen in his evaluation. When broken down by hue, it’s also among the rarest. Exterior is black and interior in smoke gray leather. The interior and exterior of this vehicle have been well maintained. There are a lot of options on this vehicle as well.

I have included the appraisal for your reference. We have the maintenance log on hand.
