San Diego, California: 1971 Mercedes-Benz 540K for sale

This is a stunning reproduction of a Mercedes-Benz 540K-R, and it has the original paint job in maroon and silver with the desired patina. Inside, it has matching genuine leather upholstery and an AM/FM radio. The vehicle has a turbo 350 automatic transmission and has covered just 3,500 of the original 12,500 miles driven. The owner, an elderly industrial designer, had intended to install a 5-speed manual transmission but health problems prevented that.

The engine is a custom-built, lightweight, small-block, “Roller-cam” 352-cid with a $40K price tag. Power windows are present, but the newly-designed disc brakes (with silicon oil for durability) and steering system are both “manual” to evoke the 1930s; similarly, the front and rear suspension systems are quite comparable to the original MB/540k. The front and rear bumpers are exquisitely constructed from’real-steel’ from the 1936 era. The ‘door-handles’ at the entrance are sturdy stainless steel. Prominent 235×15 Michelin radial tires mounted on flawless 15″ wire wheels. Beautiful vintage ‘V’-shaped headlights designed to complement the MB-radiator (-upgraded with modern low-amp. ‘warm/bright’ LED bulbs!).

1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster by Sindelfingen - Amazing Classic Cars

Includes a novel Optina battery (the “yellow” variant for longer life) and an exclusive Ignition-system developed by German inventor Ulf Arnes. In order to recreate the sensation of the original MB/540k from 1936, a custom-made, leather-clad “Banjo” steering wheel with a big diameter is used. This incredible vehicle is a one-of-a-kind find for car enthusiasts, but it’s not practical for everyday use because, as any “common street thugs” would quickly strip and wreck it if left unattended in a shopping center, for example. On sale for $149,500 (cash only; no exchanges, please) (the originals fetch prices 15 times this amount and aren’t nearly as cool, let me tell you!). The 1971 pink slip is completely free of any stains or blemishes, yet it is officially designated as a “Non-opper” in order to save money on DMV costs.
