England v Denmark LIVE: Latest Euro 2024 score and updates as Hjulmand rocket cancels out Kane strike | The Independent

After 54 minutes, he was removed… 👀

France and England play to a dull draw as Euro 2024 drags on

The Three Lions took an early lead through Harry Kane, but Denmark grabbed a point thanks to a breathtaking equalizer by Morten Hjulmand, leaving Gareth Southgate with a mountain of work to do.

Serbia pulled out a miraculous 1-1 draw with Slovenia in the other Group C match, thus a win for The Three Lions would guarantee them a spot in the knockout stage.

On paper, Denmark looks like England’s strongest group stage opponent, but the English have never won their first two games at a European Championship.Southgate stuck with an unchanged starting lineup despite backlash for their 1-0 opening win over Serbia, while Kasper Hjulmand made a single alteration to Denmark’s lineup, which included multiple top Premier League performers.

As both teams adjusted to the extremely slick “Sunday League” pitch, the first few minutes were marked by a lack of open play.

However, the game continued to progress, and soon enough, the winning goal was scored.

After nipping the ball away from a half-awake Victor Kristiansen, Walker made a spectacular surging run into the penalty area, where he set up captain Kane for a fine finish.

Then, though, the fans’ worst fears came true. Like in their previous match against Serbia, England failed to capitalize on their lead and instead let the Danes’ confidence grow as they sat deep and lost control.

In the 34th minute, Kane’s heroic performance came to an end as he carelessly lost possession of the ball after a throw-in. Hjulmand capitalized on the situation by unleashing a devastating long-range shot into the bottom left corner.
