Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has made EURO history after assisting Bruno Fernandes’ goal against Türkiye.
In the 56th minute, when the score was 2-0 in favor of Portugal , Ronaldo broke the offside trap after a long pass from his teammate. In an empty position and in front of only goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, CR7 surprised when he chose to pass to Fernandes instead of finishing himself as usual.
Receiving a “gift” from Ronaldo, Fernandes easily tapped the ball into an empty goal to raise the score to 3-0 for Portugal. Ronaldo’s handling of the situation was not only praised by the online community, but he himself also made history in EURO.
Ronaldo assisted Fernandes
According to Opta, with the assist for Fernandes, Ronaldo now has 7 assists at EURO finals, the most recorded since 1968. Thus, the 39-year-old striker once again set a new record at EURO. Previously, Ronaldo was the greatest scorer in EURO history with 14 goals and a series of other illustrious achievements at this tournament.
Against Türkiye, Ronaldo continued to be active despite being 39 years old. He played quite wide, actively dropping back to coordinate with his teammates many times. In the first half, CR7 even had a trademark step-over to eliminate the Turkish defender and pass from the right wing.
Overall, although he has not scored any goals for Portugal at EURO 2024, Ronaldo still has significant contributions for Seleccao and has not become a burden as many fans fear. That is why head coach Roberto Martinez still has great confidence in CR7, considering him the leader of Portugal.
