“I almost went to Real Madrid, but I’m a Liverpool fan,” answered Harvey Elliott.
Midfielder Harvey Elliott of the Reds says he almost signed with Real Madrid and explains why he didn’t go to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Harvey Elliott is a very promising player for Liverpool. He has already played in 41 official games this season with the team. Early in 2019, he made his debut just a few months after coming from Fulham. And last season, against Inter Milan, he was the club’s youngest player to start in a European game, at 18 years and 318 days old. Elliott, who turned 20 last week, told Liverpool that he almost went to Real Madrid before he joined the team.
“I did. To be honest, it was a mix of things. Liverpool may have gotten me instead of going to Madrid. It was set in stone for me as soon as I heard they had come for me. Elliott told the We Are Liverpool show, “Just because, mostly, I’m a Liverpool fan, like the rest of the family.” He was still in school when Liverpool played Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final in Kyiv. As a 15-year-old, he went with his father to the game. This year, the two clubs played each other in the Round of 16 stage, and Elliott played great in both games after coming on as a substitute.
For life fan
“Because I support Liverpool, so does my whole family.” Growing up, my dad really wanted to play for Liverpool, but he never quite made it. Also, my little brother is a huge fan—like, one of the biggest I’ve ever seen. He always tells me things about the team that I don’t know—he doesn’t even play on the team—and I ask him, “Where did you get that from?!?” I’ve never seen him so happy. I see it as my dream. I love living in the city and playing for the club. Seeing everyone work together as a group and a city is something I’ll never forget. Everything is so busy in the city, it’s cɾazy. Elliott, who has scored five goals for Klopp’s Liverpool so far this season, said, “All of my family moved up here, it was the best move I could have made.” An England under-21 team defender. It won’t be long before he plays his first game for England if he keeps getting better.
