Witnessing Hungary teammate Barnabas Varga’s apparent catastrophic ιnjury against Scotland left Dominik Szoboszlai visibly concerned. Seen clearly distraught, the Liverpool player was ‘in tears’ as he watched a teammate get medical attention on the field.
Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who swooped down to grab a loose ball in the air, collided with Varga. The incident was approved by VAR after they checked for a penalty in the background while medical workers attended to him.
It was much more important that the players on the field showed concern for Varga. A number of Hungarian players, including Szoboszlai, hurried over to the injured forward in an effort to hasten the arrival of the stretcher crew; players from both teams around the injured player.
The UK broadcast’s TV commentators claimed to have seen footage of Szoboszlai crying during the long delay. Varga was eventually helped off the field and replaced by Martin Adam after everyone appeared visibly distressed by the occurrence.
Both Andy Robertson of Liverpool and Zsolt Szoboszlai need a win to have any chance of qualifying from Group A, therefore this game is crucial for both. It’s unusual for matches to resume in such a way, but it seemed to add a new level of excitement to this particular bаttle.
Szoboszlai stunneԀ the Scots with a stunning drag-back move just moments after the restart, allowing him to dribble past two of their players. The Scots quickly countered with a robust penalty shout of their own.
We will provide you with more updates as the game progresses. As for Varga, we will provide updates as they become available and send our best wishes his way.
