After Raphael Varane leaves Manchester United this summer, David Beckham is reportedly eager to sign the defender at Inter Miami.
The 31-year-old Varane left Old Trafford when his contract ended at the end of the season. He is still a free agent and is being considered by a number of teams.
The center defender has reportedly been approached about joining Inter Miami, where he would team up with both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, according to The Mirror.Former Barcelona players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are also present at Chase Stadium after being enticed to sign with Beckham’s elite team in the US.
After spending £34 million to join United from Real Madrid in July 2021, Varane made 93 appearances before leaving amicably due to a series of ailments.During his three seasons, in which he made just 68 Premier League games, he is said to have cost the Red Devils £85 million in wages and transfer fees.
In spite of this, Beckham is reportedly prepared to give the former France international a substantial salary increase in an effort to raise awareness of his Florida-based team. Varane might be acquired by Inter Miami outside of the July 18–August 14 transfer window, as the team leads the MLS standings after 20 games.
During his tenure at United, Varane gained popularity and was awarded the Carabao Cup in 2023. He also won the FA Cup during his final game for the team the previous season.
In a heartfelt video message sent to supporters ahead of the 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Wembley, he had announced his departure.”Playing for this special club and wearing that shirt has been an amazing few years,” Varane remarked. As a Manchester United player, my first visit to Old Trafford was incredible; the energy was contagious.
“Fans who visit Wembley leave with lifelong memories.” It was truly incredible to be a part of that moment [winning the Carabao Cup] with them.
We had a challenging season, but I have a lot of optimism for the future.
