As the second half got underway, Diaz found himself with an opportunity to open his Copa America goal account. Rodriguez’s next set-piece attempt was cleared as far as Diaz, who was standing atop the penalty box, but the Liverpool winger missed the Paraguay net with his volley attempt by a few feet.
In the 69th minute, Paraguay cut the lead in half, creating intense tension in the largely Colombian Houston audience.
