Eduardo Camavinga made headlines after the victory against Naples. However, unwittingly, he sparked a small brand war.
Despite being injured, Eduardo Camavinga is an important element in the Madrid locker room, and he demonstrated this once again after Real Madrid’s triumph over Naples in the Champions League. The Frenchman celebrated the success and qualification for the round of 16 with his teammates and initiated a fun endeavor.
Indeed, Camavinga took a photo of everyone in the Santiago Bernabeu locker room wearing his rather unique glasses. From Lunin to Kroos, including Arda and Modric, no one could escape. He then created a collage and posted it on his Instagram account. The post quickly went viral, but it did not take the expected turn…
However, in the afternoon, the post was deleted. The media outlet Relevo then investigated to find out the reasons for this decision made by Camavinga, and it turns out to be a brand war between Nike and Adidas. Indeed, the Frenchman’s glasses belong to the swoosh brand with which he is personally associated. Everything is normal so far.
The problem is that many other players in the Real Madrid squad, and thus a significant portion of those present in Camavinga’s collage, are associated with Adidas.
Among these players is the phenomenon Jude Bellingham, who is currently heavily promoted by Adidas. But there are also Joselu, Mendy, Militao, and Alaba. Carvajal is associated with Puma, while Rudiger is sponsored by Under Armour. In short, all these brands did not appreciate this form of communication, which was certainly not intended by Camavinga. Not in his intentions, at least.
As mentioned by Relevo, it’s not only that. Indeed, Adidas is also the main sponsor of Real Madrid, and the German brand contributes around 120 million euros annually to the Madrid club. Therefore, it can legitimately express its displeasure at seeing the promotion of another brand in the Madrid club’s locker room.
