Los Angeles Lakers may be prepared to extend LeBron James’s deal by three more years

You should know that LeBron James’ current deal with the Los Angeles Lakers is coming to an end. He is now under contract and has until June 29 to decide whether to exercise his player option, which is worth $51.4 million. Even though LeBron James is reportedly not interested in the deal, the Los Angeles Times reports that he is likely to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers’ willingness to give James a huge wage boost, though, means that he will likely remain with the team for the next three years, which is a new step in the negotiations. Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports that the team is eager to give one of the greatest NBA players of all time these three years. After all, James may be given the option to retire with the purple and gold.

ESPN: LeBron James Can Sign New Three-Year Contract With Lakers

Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers would likely be thrilled to retain LeBron James for the upcoming season if he were to remain with the team, given that his friend J.J. Redick has been hired as his coach. To be fair, James’s likelihood of being a Lakers player at least through next season is quite strong. Nevertheless, we cannot make any definitive statements at this time without official confirmation that the parties have reached an agreement on a proposal. Let it be known that if LeBron James were to accept this offer, he would almost certainly sign with this NBA club as his last. Already in the past few months, LeBron has made retirement a topic of public discussion.

James is effectively agreeing to a guaranteed annual salary of $54 million if he accepts the three-year, $162 million offer. However, it is not guaranteed that he will play all three years; LeBron may easily play out the remaining season before deciding to retire. There have been rumors that James has downplayed the importance of spending time playing with his kid Bronny. No longer does he wish to encourage his eldest son to pursue a career in the National Basketball Association. When it comes to new players, the Lakers won’t have much space to maneuver if they sign James to that deal. If he accepts the new deal that ESPN is mentioning, the roster will have less affordable options. How can the King proceed?
