As has already been well-established by now, Barcelona are ardently pursuing the signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer.
The 21-year-old Spanish international has emerged as the No. 1 target to strengthen the left side of the attack heading into the new season under Hansi Flick.
The youngster’s €58-60 million release clause, though, is seen as a bit of a hurdle while the increasing competition for his services also makes things challenging.
Initial offer made
Now, SPORT has come forward with new information regarding Barcelona and their pursuit of Nico Williams this summer.
As per the update, the Blaugrana have already made an offer worth €40 million, to be paid in two separate instalments of €20 million each, plus Inigo Martinez (market value €5 million) to Athletic Club for the signing of the Spanish winger.
However, Barça suspect that this first proposal will be rejected and are already preparing a second one with a significant increase in the financial amount.

Indeed, the Catalans are readying a second offer worth €55 million fixed fee plus another €10 million in variables, while also throwing in Martinez as part of the deal.
The total value of the operation would reach €65 million plus Martinez, taking it higher than Nico’s release clause amount.
However, Barcelona intend to pay the €55 million fixed fee in two instalments of €30 million and €25 million, rather than shelling out the entire release clause amount in one go.
But suspicions remain that Athletic Club would knock back this proposal as well and point towards Nico’s release clause even though the total package would be of higher value.
On top of this, journalist Jose Alvarez mentions that the Catalans intend to offer the Spaniard a salary somewhere in the range of €8 million to €15 million.
Nico, for his part, remains focused on succeeding with Spain at the ongoing Euros. With clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool also chasing his signature, the youngster could be in for an intense summer.
