Alexander Isak, a striker for Newcastle, is no longer being pursued by Chelsea.
The Sun said that the Blues and their new manager, Enzo Maresca, were unwilling to pay Newcastle’s asking price of more than £100 million.
Newcastle thinks Isak is worth closer to £120 million in the current market.Despite this week’s talks between Chelsea and the Swedish international, a deal is currently unlikely.
Newcastle was worried Chelsea will make a low offer for the 24-year-old in an attempt to take advantage of their PSR issues. It would have been tough for Chelsea to pay Isak what he was demanding. The forward currently makes about £120,000 per week, but if he had moved to Stamford Bridge, he would have preferred to make about £200,000 per week.
Everton might suffer as a result of the unsuccessful attempt to sign Isak. The source claims that Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, sees Calvert-Lewin as his first choice striker target in the event that Isak leaves, adding to Sean Dyche’s team’s difficulties in meeting their PSR deadline.
Even though Calvert-Lewin would be open to a move and Newcastle is willing to hand him a five-year contract, it doesn’t seem probable that a deal would materialize unless Isak leaves.
