“I strive to have a versatile game – shoot, dribble, pass, rebound, and defend,” Peterson stated in an interview he gave to CelticsBlog earlier in the season. “The guys on the court determine my role, and I do what the team needs me to do.”
He was a two-way player who was ineligible to play in games despite appearing in three during the regular season and being with the team during the playoff run. Nonetheless, he had the opportunity to witness a championship in Boston. When Peterson initially joined with the club, Joe Mazzulla compared him to Sam Hauser, saying that the latter had shown the way to success for the organization.
“When you observe Sam’s accomplishments, it becomes clear that there is a formula that can be refined. The more you can mold your players into their potential roles and watch them blossom, the more you’ll have a formula on your hands,” Mazzulla explained.Peterson clinches one of the three two-way spots for the Celtics. The Celtics’ 54th-round pick, Anton Watson, is also expected to sign a two-way contract. Since he is a free agent, JD Davison—who has played both forward and defense for Boston on two occasions—could fill the third place.
Along with Xavier Tillman (two years), Luke Kornet (one year), and Neemias Queta (three years), Peterson is the latest member of the Celtics’ championship roster to re-sign. During the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas later this month, Peterson will be competing.
