Just a couple of months ago, it seemed like Darwin Nunez’s future with Liverpool was uncertain. Photos surfaced of the Uruguayan striker hanging out with Ronald Araujo in Barcelona, sparking all kinds of rumours about a potential move to the Spanish club.
It must be noted that the end of the season had been rough for Nunez, so much so that he even deleted all his Instagram photos where he was wearing the Liverpool shirt.
But now, things have taken a turn. In England, news has emerged that Liverpool’s new coach, Arne Slot, has had a heart-to-heart talk with Nunez during the Copa America.
The aim of the conversation was to convince the forward of his importance to the team and to discourage him from considering a transfer.
Slot wants to work with Nunez
In a recent interview, Slot shared his thoughts on Nunez and his potential role at Liverpool. Slot believes that the forward will fit perfectly into his style of play.

He acknowledged that Nunez has had some difficulties with finishing, but despite this, Slot is convinced about the forward’s value and is determined to keep him in the team.
“I just told him that from what I saw, he played in multiple positions and those are the positions I see him playing in,” said Slot as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
“I guess he will fit very well in this style of play because I like it. I have already told him that, he is one of the players I have spoken to. He may have had some difficulties in finishing, but he has been in those positions many times.
“I think he could fit very well. He is clear about what position he is going to play and I am clear about it too and I have told him that,” he said.
Barcelona’s interest in Nunez isn’t new. A few months back, the Catalan club was struggling with their striking options. While those issues still exist, Barcelona have decided that they are not looking to sign a new forward at this time.
