1938 Morris Eight Series II Saloon. Factory Black with Red leather upholstery and sliding roof. A charming car that has been with its last owner for 3 years and cherished during this time.
The Eight was Morris’s great Thirties success stories and one of Britain’s best-loved pre-war cars, it is no exaggeration to say that the Eight was the car that saved the company.
It was an affordable family car, better suited to the now busy English roads than the larger models in the range. So successful was it that within three years of its introduction in September 1934, over 160,000 had been sold.
Available as a two- or four-seat tourer and a two- or four-door saloon, the Eight was capable of 60mph and 40mpg from its 23.5bhp 918cc side-valve engine while benefiting from hydraulic brakes and a good level of equipment – and all this for the princely sum of just £120 brand new! This particular car was supplied new in 1938 in Wem, Shropshire and up until more recently was always local to that area.
Owned for many years by a successful garage owner who sold it to his salesman he then bought it back in 2005, although the engine was seized at this time it was a problem soon rectified. Staying with the family the car was used for local trips and taking the kids to and from school.
The paintwork remains in beautiful order and overall the car is in great original condition, particularly the upholstery which has a lovely patina. New tyres were fitted in 2022 and a stainless steel exhaust.
The car starts on the button with its original 6V system and runs and drives well, the engine was overhauled approximately 4 years ago and has covered little mileage since, and the manual gearbox free from any whines or grating.
A lovely car that is just waiting to be enjoyed in new hands and will grace any classic car show or rally and is a car we are very proud to offer. Absolutely any inspection is welcome.
