The perfect summer for Derrick White has just gotten better.
In addition to his four-year, $125.9 million deal agreement with the Celtics and his first NBA championship last month, White can now add “Olympian” to his résumé.

Questions are being raised by Jaylen Brown’s post following Derrick White’s nod to Team USA
Thanks to Kawhi Leonard’s decision to not participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, another player from the Boston Celtics will be able to join Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday.
Of course, it’s not Jaylen Brown, the NBA Finals MVP and All-Star.
Derrick White, a guard for the Celtics, will replace Leonard on USA Basketball’s 12-man Olympic squad, the organization announced Wednesday at 12:00 ET. Approximately eight minutes after that, Brown tweeted the following:The three emojis representing raised eyebrows could theoretically be about anything as Brown has not supplied any further context. Another possibility is that Brown is just pleased for White’s selection to Team USA and is trying to convey his feelings through this.
Mаny NBа fаns, hоwever, tооk Brоwn’s cоmments tо meаn thаt he felt he hаd been “snubbed” by Teаm USа аnd thаt White hаd been unfаirly chоsen.
If Brown truly believes it, he has a valid point: Recent career highlights for the 27-year-old include averaging 23.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He solidified his position as one of the top two-way wings globally. Even better in the playoffs, he guarded the greatest player on the other team and still managed to win most valuable player honors. An excellent two-way winger like Leonard would have been well-suited to his position. However, given that Brown’s Celtics teammate was named to the roster instead, Brown’s post doesn’t look the best. Brown is inviting unneeded speculation that he is unhappy that White was selected on the roster instead of himself, even though he may be secretly thrilled for White.
But Brown is accustomed to being ignored, and White doesn’t appear to be the kind of Celtics player who would allow this to escalate. Perhaps Brown will be even more motivated to work hard this offseason to assist Boston in defending Banner 18 while White, Tatum, and Holiday compete for the gold in Paris.
