This Roadless Village Appears to Have Come Straight From A Fairytale

The little town is known as the “Venice of the Netherlands” due to its abundance of historic homes and canals, which number in the hundreds. This charming town is very similar to Venice, with the exception that there is not a single gasoline engine in sight. Since Giethoorn lacks highways, noisy and intrusive automobiles are unnecessary. The locals are easygoing, getting around on foot and, when necessary, taking it easy on the canal. This Danish village seems like something out of a children’s book.

In Giethoorn, the only sounds you might hear are the occasional rustle of leaves or the quacking of ducks.

The canals’ diesel-free waters are responsible for the calming stillness.

Every watercraft in this area runs on electricity.

You may see a local strolling leisurely through the neighborhood while you float along a side street—actually, it’s really a little canal. The community’s historic farm homes have complex thatched roofs, and when you float beneath them, you’ll see them all.

Roofs made of tile were considered a status symbol in the past because thatched roofs were less expensive. Nowadays, it’s the polar opposite.

Located in Giethoorn, it is a picturesque and peaceful town. There won’t be any annoying crowds or commercialism here.

Most homes are inaccessible by car because of the absence of roads, so the postman distributes mail by boat.

Ice skating is a popular winter mode of transportation for locals who no longer have access to dinghies since the canals have frozen over.

This hamlet is now home to a mere 3,000 people.
