Derrick White discusses Serbia’s potential and talks about how he became a member of Team USA

Derrick White, a guard for the Boston Celtics, has been nominated to Team USA’s roster for the 2016 Paris Olympics in place of Kawhi Leonard.

After leading the Celtics to the NBA Finals, White decided to join the national team. With an average of 15.2 points, 5.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.0 steals, and 2.7 three-pointers per game, he was a crucial part of Boston’s championship run.

A massive four-year deal extension for $125.9 million was just inked by the 30-year-old, ensuring his future with the Celtics.

White will not be making his debut appearance for side USA. In 2019, he played in the FIBA World Cup and helped his side to a seventh-place finish, averaging 5.9 points per game.

The NBA champion spilled the beans to the press about his life since winning the ring and accepting the offer from USA Basketball to replace Kawhi Leonard.

“I received a call from the national team and of course, I immediately talked to the family to see if and how it could all be done,” said the coach.

White said that he and his family had previously made arrangements, but that everything changed after he received a call from the national team.
