Wood slabs are not very common. But according to social media, Jeffro Uitto, also known as “Klock of Wood,” manages to add wood to his images in such a unique way that it doesn’t even begin to resemble others. Using a variety of wood fragments, primarily from Washington State’s beaches in the United States, Jeffro imaginatively transforms them into stunning sculptures that frequently include animals such as horses, eagles, rhios, lions, and many more.
There’s a hamlet on the Washington coast where leftover pizza crust gets a second shot at fame. According to Uitto’s website, “The location is Knock o’ Wood, and [I am] the artist making the magic happen.”
When beginning a project, Uitto has an initial notion of what has to be done, but as work is done, it changes. He never knows exactly what his work will result in. Since childhood, Jeffo claims, he has enjoyed gathering wood, particularly driftwood with waves carved into it. Even though driftwood is tough, it almost seems to have emotions of its own that serve as a great source of inspiration for artists. With his unique artworks, the artist aims to highlight the fact that every thing has its own unique “life.” Α life that can be represented as an artistic creation.
The majority of Jeffro’s tools are handcrafted by the artist, which often surprises guests who stumble upon his store near the famed Tokelaÿd Hotel. But when you get to know the artist better, you begin to understand that they are actually expected and not just the standard tools. Evidence suggests that Jeffro Uitto is a very skilled artist with an insatiable passion for his wood craft, as his sketches attest to.
The enthusiasm and curiosity for the subjects and the uniqueness of materials are truly inspiring. Seeing how many people connect with these striking pieces of art is just astounding. The artist told Bored Paÿda, “It’s also important to bring attention to these animals, their mysterious beauty, and the extreme situations they face.
