Mikal Bridges of the Knicks Responds to Seeing His Old Suns Teammate Again
After being traded to the New York Knicks, Mikal Bridges was expected to play for an NBA team without a former Phoenix Suns teammate for the first time in his career.
He played on the Brooklyn Nets with former Suns colleague Cameron Johnson following their trades in 2022–2023 and 2023–2024. However, Bridges was not acquired by the Knicks in the transaction that brought him back together with a number of his former college teammates.
Bridges’s old running partner from the Suns was added by the Knicks. On July 15, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, they reached an agreement on a one-year, $3 million contract with guard Cameron Payne. Bridges posted a gif of the two dancing to demonstrate his excitement.
When Bridges and Payne played together, it was common to see them dancing prior to games. Additionally, Payne gained notoriety for carrying on with Bridges’ traditional three-point strut following the latter’s transfer to Brooklyn.
Bridges wrote on X, “Lil turbo a legend,” following the gesture in February 2023.
During the 2023 offseason, Payne was dealt by the Suns to the Milwaukee Bucks. After joining the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2023–24 season, Payne kept up the celebration.
