After training, Chelsea tells Mykhailo Mudryk to ‘tone down’ his gym routines because they’re worried the £88M failure is ‘overdoing it’

Mykhailo Mudryk has reportedly received a warning from Chelsea to cut back on his gym time due to worries that the winger is overdoing his rigorous training schedule.

The Ukraine international is rumored to submit himself to strenuous workouts in an effort to preserve his fitness and reclaim the form that took him to Stamford Bridge. He was purchased by the club during the January transfer window for a cost that may yet surpass £88 million (€100 million).

Following his impressive performance with Shakhtar Donetsk, Mudryk was wooed by several elite teams. Arsenal was the most persistent, but Chelsea eventually took the 22-year-old’s services.

However, Mudryk has struggled for playing time and performances in blue since moving to west London. During the 2022–23 season and the beginning of Chelsea’s 2023–24 season, he registered just eight starts under four different managers.

While many teams are eager to reward players who put in a lot of effort in their fitness programs, Mudryk’s off-field efforts are beginning to cause worry at Cobham. According to the Athletic, Mudryk is so committed to the team that he goes to gyms outside of the club to put in extra effort and meets all of Chelsea’s strict requirements.

According to a source, “He will train as Chelsea requests of him, but he will always find time for extra work in the gym.” Players see that he is devoted. They said, “He wants to be better,” and asked for patience while the player developed. He needs to be left alone by everyone. He’s a good-looking boy.

Though Chelsea may have gently warned the player about the possibility of overtraining, not much has changed since his time at Shakhtar, where he likewise preferred strength training and heavy lifting.

Mudryk trains with personal trainer Dima Chapovskyi, who often uploads footage of workouts to his Instagram account, with the intention of purportedly increasing his physical preparedness and endurance.

Mudryk is one of the league’s fastest players despite playing little. His teammate Wesley Fofana even named him the fastest player he has faced, surpassing his fellow Frenchman Kylian Mbappe.

However, he hasn’t done much this season under new manager Rafael Pochettino. His aspirations of getting off to a solid start were dashed when Chelsea defeated Luton 3-0 at home due to a minor calf injury.

Given that Mudryk has revealed that he calls his parents in Ukraine every day to inquire about their well-being while they still reside in the war-torn nation, it is possible that outside influences have contributed to his lackluster start to life at Stamford Bridge.

It’s possible that the surge of new players and management turnover that accompanied his arrival in west London hindered his ability to adapt and thrive at his new team.
