The disappointment of not getting LeBron James’ autograph once moved Jayson Tatum to tears.
Shortly after signing a historic five-year extension agreement with the Celtics, Tatum reflected on the event, which he claims happened when he was about eleven years old, in a video that was just uploaded to official NBA channels.
“The crazy thing is, Bron told me no,” Tatum says at the opening of the clip. From that point on, we watch the five-time NBA All-Star telling the tale alongside Team USA teammate LeBron.
The encounter that made Tatum cry reportedly occurred at a Memphis game.”Larry Hughes is my dad’s best friend,” JT remarked, referring to Justin Tatum, whose father is a current National Basketball League coach and a former professional. They were teammates on the Cavaliers. I went to a Memphis game with my mom. Meeting LeBron and getting a signature and photo with him were my top priorities. Back there, there were many people. Just like that, he was out. I had to leave. I then began to sob as I climbed into the car. However, we’re going to chill down now.
When LeBron heard the story for the first time, he made light of a long-discussed incident between himself and JT, and his son Bronny, who will soon be playing on the floor with him.
According to the Lakers legend, “that’s why you dunked on me in the conference finals.” He was referring to the highlight reel from a 2018 ECF game. The 26-year-old St. Louis native and former Duke Blue Devil is gearing up for the Jayson Tatum Foundation Charity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, which is set to take place in about a month.
