Even though it was in the Summer League, the Celtics’ poor start versus the Mavericks in their rematch of the NBA Finals was noticeable. In Friday’s 101-90 loss to the Mavs in Las Vegas, the C’s concluded their Summer League group stage play.
The Mavs took an early lead after scoring 30 points in the first quarter. Despite the C’s best efforts, they were unable to overcome a first-half disadvantage due to a lack of scoring punch.
The Celtics’ starting point guard Jaelen House finished with 18 points and 9 assists. In addition to Anton Watson’s 14 points, rookie Baylor Scheierman scored 15. The Mavericks won thanks to 22 points from Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
The Celtics will not be advancing to the four-team playoffs as they are presently 2-2 in Vegas. Soon, they will be announced the one and only Summer League game they will play. Reigning champions the C’s will then head into the offseason before focusing on training camp a few months from now.
