Klay Thompson’s departure leaves the Golden State Warriors with a huge hole to fill. As one of the best shooters in the game’s history, he won four championships and was beloved by fans. The three of them formed the backbone of the most recent NBA dynasty, and his skill set was a perfect fit with Stephen Curry’s and Draymond Green’s.
As part of their strategy to address the need to replace Thompson’s effect on the court, the Warriors planned to acquire sharpshooter Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers in a sign-and-trade. Though it will be difficult to follow in Thompson’s footsteps, Hield believes there is “no pressure” to live up to the high expectations established by the legendary shooter.
At his price point—two years guaranteed for $21 million—Hield came out as the most reasonable option among the available options to match Thompson’s effect on the court. After Curry (1st) and Thompson (2nd), Hield ranks third among active NBA players with a lifetime three-point shooting percentage of 40%.
It appears like Hield will be a good match for the Warriors’ fast-paced offense that uses movement to set up shooters for easy baskets. With Curry and Green on his side, Hield was anxious to add to the Warriors’ legacy of success.
