In a nail-biting comeback victory over South Sudan, LeBron James shines

An inconceivable thing nearly happened in South Sudan. The United States of America basketball team came perilously close to pulling off a miracle in their first of two exhibition games in London before their 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Royal Ivey squad had to stage a comeback in order to beat the British hosts in their maiden match in Great Britain. But at tonight’s O2 Arena, the screenwriters delivered a completely different story, as the United States team narrowly held on to the lead right up until the final buzzer.By the conclusion of the second quarter, USA Basketball had fallen behind by 16 points (58-42). As the third quarter began, and Nuni Omot scored a massive put-back dunk on Anthony Davis, everyone was bracing for the unbelievable.

But LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers came alive in the second quarter. With a 16-0 run to end the third quarter, they spearheaded a comeback and gave South Sudan the leadership they needed to remain in the losing position.

After Anthony Davis missed a dunk attempt with twenty seconds remaining, JT Thor shocked the game by putting South Sudan ahead 100-99. The game-winning basket by LeBron James was inevitable, though.
