As fans eagerly await the release of It Ends With Us on August 9, an intense new trailer is teasing the complicated–and steamy–dynamic between the two leads. In the second It Ends With Us trailer, which was released on July 19, viewers get to see Lily Bloom (played by Blake Lively) first meet Ryle Kinkaid (played by Justin Baldoni) and navigate their intense relationship.
Emotions run high in the teaser, which begins with Lively walking into a party wearing iridescent boots and curly hair. As she removes her jacket to reveal a plunging LBD, she exchanges a knowing glance with Ryle, and then the scene cuts to her character meeting the neurosurgeon for the first time on a rooftop and developing an instant connection. The trailer also featured various steamy scenes between Lively and Baldoni, including one seemingly from the first scene. The drama unfolds as Lively runs into her first love, Atlas Corrigan (played by Brandon Sklenar). The It Ends With Us teaser then shows an angry Baldoni throwing something on the ground and breaking it, Lively running outside, and Baldoni punching Sklenar during an intense altercation. The trailer ends with Lively looking contemplative and gazing sadly at the camera.
It Ends With Us, which is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book of the same name, follows a woman named Lily Bloom as she starts a new life in Boston and opens up her flower shop. After meeting Ryle Kinkaid, the two embark on a whirlwind romance and fall deeply in love, but Lily soon realizes that there are some parts of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ abusive relationship. Her childhood love Atlas Corrigan comes back into her life, and Lily needs to make a choice about her future.
Lively previously opened up about the role in an interview with People, calling it an “honor” to play the lead character. “Lily resonated with an enormous amount of people, as the success of the book made clear,” she told the publication. “Stepping into a character who’s had such a meaningful impact is an honor to take on. I loved Lily, and I hope that love is felt by those who care about her like I do, and also those who are getting to know her for the first time in this film.”
