After Stephen Curry tied the game at 75, Devin Booker worked both ends of the floor to block a shot and then make an absurd layup to give the United States a three-point lead. The Germans, who eliminated Team USA in the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, maintained their momentum and maintained an 82-81 advantage with just over four minutes remaining. This was the moment when James assumed control, executing a dunk to secure the lead and subsequently converting a three-pointer with 1:25 remaining.James would persist in his dominance of the boards, and his contributions to the offensive end in the low post would provide Team USA with a late advantage.

Joel Embiid contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, while Curry contributed 13 points.

Franz Wagner of the Orlando Magic was the top scorer for Germany, with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Moritz, his sibling and Magic teammate, contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.

Two days preceding Monday’s victory, Team USA secured a 101-100 victory over South Sudan following James’ layup with eight seconds remaining. They initiated the pre-Olympics tour with victories over Serbia, Australia, and Canada.

Team USA will now proceed to Paris to further its Olympic preparation. Following their opening match against Serbia on Sunday, they will conclude the group stage of the tournament by playing against South Sudan on July 31 and Puerto Rico on August 3.

The American men are attempting to secure their eighth gold medal in the last nine Olympics and their fifth consecutive gold medal.
