A 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL that has been lovingly cared for for more than sixty years is hidden away in the charming Danish town of Langeskov. It is a genuine treasure in the world of classic cars. The joy and pride of the local inhabitant, Soren Hansen, is this magnificent roadster, which exudes timeless beauty with its clean lines.
The 190SL was the first luxury sports car that Hansen, a lifelong auto aficionado, lay eyes on in 1978, when he was a teenager. “I remember seeing it parked on the street and being instantly captivated,” says he. “The way the sunlight danced off the chrome, the soft burble of the inline-six engine – it was love at first sight.”
Years down the road, in 1985, Hansen finally achieved his goal of buying the 190SL from its former owner. The next step was a meticulous restoration that included dismantling the vehicle to its metal components and reassembling it to meet the standards of a concours.
No mistake about it, the work was done out of love, according to Hansen. “I spent countless hours scouring the country for original parts, meticulously restoring each component to ensure it was as close to factory-fresh as possible.”
Hansen has accomplished nothing short of astonishing. His 190SL is a preserved classic from the heyday of automobile design; it is a perfect example of the legendary sports car that Mercedes-Benz produced. The precise handling, buttery tan leather upholstery, and shiny silver paint will take you to another time and place.
“Whenever I take this car out for a spin, it’s like being in a different world,” according to Hansen. “The engine noise, the way it handles—it’s the epitome of power and grace. As I drive around the Riviera’s seaside highways, I can’t help but be transported back to the ’60s.
Hansen’s 190SL has become an iconic figure in the little town of Langeskov, where residents and visitors alike adore the beautiful roadster. Hansen is pleased to show the world the results of his labor of love.
“This car is a piece of history, and I’m honored to be its caretaker,” he points out. “It’s a testament to the timeless design and engineering prowess of Mercedes-Benz, and I’ll continue to cherish and preserve it for as long as I’m able.”
