The new “Pretty Penny” hue of Devin Booker’s trademark sneaker, the Nike Book 1, was hinted to in an Instagram post by the Phoenix Suns player on Friday.
Part of the design for the new sneaker came from Booker’s 1959 Chevrolet Impala.In September 2023, Booker became a Nike signature athlete. Book 1 hues such as “Triple Black,” “Cool Grey,” and “Forrest Gump” have been released by the brand since then.
The Phoenix Suns player, who will be competing for Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, has been hinting at various upcoming Nike Book 1 hues. The Suns unveiled the guard’s new blue and white color scheme earlier this week.
Inspired by Kevin Durant’s 2011 trademark shoe, the “Christmas/Copper” Nike KD 4, Booker’s latest hue is a nod to that shoe.
The 2024 Christmas season will see a re-release of the Nike KD 4 in the “Christmas/Copper” colorway.
Booker, who calls himself a “classic car collector,” drove “Pretty Penny” to the 2021 NBA Finals’ first game.There has been talk of a shoe line bearing Booker’s name before, supposedly inspired by his collection of classic cars.
Booker and Converse released the Devin Booker Chuck 70 sneaker in July 2023. On the right heel, instead of the Chuck Taylor emblem, there was a design reminiscent of the license plate of “Pretty Penny.”
An article by Boardroom’s Nick DePaula later that year said that the 1972 Chevy Blazer “Uncle Larry” and the song “Pretty Penny” were the main influences on the first Nike Book.
“Partly inspired by Booker’s love of classic cars, some fully revamped under the hood with modern engines, Nike took on a similar approach for the Book 1, powering in performance from within,” the writer said.
The United States national basketball team will play South Sudan in an exhibition game in London on Saturday, so fans may get a first look at the new “Pretty Penny” hues.
