During the summer transfer window, Manchester City will reportedly ask Chelsea for £60 million for Julian Alvarez.

After becoming dissatisfied with his playing time towards the end of the season, the 24-year-old is considering a transfer away from Etihad Stadium. Over their last four Premier League matches, Alvarez saw action for a total of seventeen minutes, without starting a single one. Regardless, he is still an important cog in City’s wheel, having finished the season with 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 opportunities.

Nevertheless, Alvarez may depart City this summer to play for Argentina at the Paris Olympics. He is reportedly unhappy with his playing time and is seeking a way out before the next season begins, according to The Athletic.

His relatives who accompanied him to England also share his desire to relocate to a warmer environment. City is reportedly seeking a transfer fee of roughly £60 million to keep Alvarez, which would be a huge profit when compared to the £18 million they spent River Plate for him two years ago. As a result, Alvarez may not be able to make the move abroad.

Any interested party will have to shell out a pretty penny to close the purchase, as City is also seeking roughly £17 million in add-ons. Alvarez has been linked to a number of clubs, including Chelsea, as Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen his attack line this summer. It is said that Atletico Madrid is also keeping tabs on the situation, but they are allegedly not ready to meet City’s demand.

Alvarez, who is still under contract for another four years, will likely play second fiddle to Erling Haaland for City this season, but he is versatile enough to contribute in other offensive positions as needed. He will be in the running for a starting eleven berth alongside Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Jeremy Doku.
