Atletico Madrid is negotiating with Chelsea to acquire Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher is scheduled to return to Cobham, not to fly out to the United States to join the rest of the Blues squad for the rest of their pre-season tour.
Having been given an extended vacation by Chelsea following England’s journey to the Euro 2024 final, the 24-year-old boyhood supporter of the club will do so with his future up the air.Gallagher is scheduled to be in his last year of contract, thus this summer Chelsea has one more chance to profit from their native talent valued at £50 million.
Having never displayed an inclination to head for the exit of the club he joined aged six, he would still need convincing should a sum be agreed with Atletico.Along with West Ham, Tottenham has also indicated interest; but, if they can agree personal terms, Atletico seems most likely to grab the England international.
When Mail Sport contacted Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca about his opinion on Gallagher in Atlanta on Tuesday, he said: ” Sadly, anything can happen when the transfer window is open. Not only for Conor but for every other player as well.Having appeared in all but one of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games, Gallagher had been a vital member of their team last season.
In 50 Blues games in all competitions, the midfielder scored seven goals and offered nine assists.
Because Reece James was injured, Gallagher had captained Chelsea for most of the season.
