Although Robert Sanchez insists he is “the right guy” for Maresca’s new style of play at Chelsea, his future at Stamford Bridge looks to be bleak.

Sanchez wants to fight Jorgensen for the top slot, and Chelsea’s new goalkeeper has lately chosen to send a note over to the 26-year-old, who he believes to be “very good” and has been tracking since his days at Brighton.Jorgensen said on Chelsea’s website: “Robert Sanchez has been with the national team of Spain, where I live, and I followed him a bit when he was at Brighton and now Chelsea.”

“I hope we can learn from each other and generate the best versions of ourselves together; I know he is a really good goalie.”

Having signed a seven-year contract spanning until 2031, Jorgensen has also disclosed the name of his greatest Chelsea hero.

“I watched a lot of Petr Cech growing up, thus Chelsea was one of my favourite teams to follow,” Jorgensen said.

More broadly, Jorgensen said: “I am very happy with how the last 12 months have panned out.” Regarding his move to Chelsea,I know my own qualities and I am rather confident in them. Fortunately I got to perform on the largest stage in Spain.

“And now I am rather glad to have the opportunity to do that at one of the most prestigious clubs worldwide.”

Chelsea head coach Maresca cautioned Sanchez last week that “everything can happen” as the summer transfer market remained open.

“One of the key positions, the way we want to play depends much on the goalkeeper,” Maresca remarked. Everything is possible during the open transfer window.
