Renowned for its dedication to save and rehabilitate elephants, the refuge has just welcomed its most recent addition.

Komo, a newborn elephant, was an unexpected but wonderful visitor for reporter Geoff Mayes of the Plains Rally highlighting Africa’s poaching epidemic. Like a curious toddler, Komo gave the program some unpredictability.
Komo already surpasses a human adult, even at infancy. Geoff started talking about the grave problem of the ivory trade endangering elephants, when Komo gently head-butted him, therefore making it difficult for Geoff to keep a straight face.
The baby elephant’s antics—ear-fanning and attention-seeking—had Geoff and viewers laughing.
